Comprehensive Treatment For Marijuana Addiction in South Florida

There are a lot of misconceptions about drug addiction, particularly when it comes to marijuana addiction. With pushes for legality across the country, a romanticized image in social circles or pop culture, and socially accepted use in some communities, it is easy for teens to experience a positive perception of marijuana. However, marijuana is still a dangerous and addictive substance. Our comprehensive marijuana addiction treatment in South Florida is designed to address not just the effects of marijuana, but the perceptions, ideas, and stresses that led to the use of marijuana in the first place.

Marijuana Addiction Treatment For Teens and Young Adults

Young adults can be exposed to several stresses that can lead to experimenting with marijuana, and many of those exploring marijuana in these formative years can develop a dependence or addiction to the drug. Our treatment facility explores the unique challenges and influences that teens face, providing dedicated care for adolescent males to explore the effects and best strategies for healing from marijuana addiction.

We blend evidence-based care and therapies like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and more with holistic treatment to create rehab programs focused on the unique challenges teens face while balancing personal needs with peer support groups, opportunities for balancing ongoing education with healing, and a collaborative approach to each program that addresses your entire well-being.

Misconceptions About Marijuana

Unhealthy misconceptions about marijuana can be extremely prevalent, especially for teenagers. From influences from peers, arguments pushing for the legality of marijuana, and increasing social acceptance of the drug, many teens may have altered or incomplete information when it comes to marijuana and its effects. Even social media and music can impact your son’s perception of the drug. Some common misconceptions include:

  • Marijuana isn’t dangerous
  • It is natural, and therefore safe
  • Marijuana isn’t addictive
  • It helps reduce stress
  • Stopping is easy

Despite these misconceptions, marijuana is still an addictive substance that carries an array of adverse effects on a person’s mental and physical health. Many teens who begin experimenting with marijuana during their teenage years can also be at an increased risk of developing cannabis use disorder, which can lead to potential long-term consequences.

Common Signs Of Marijuana Addiction

As a parent, noticing changes in your child’s behavior related to marijuana use can be worrying. Early recognition helps you intervene effectively. Below are common signs to watch for so you can start a conversation or seek support if needed.

  • Increased tolerance: Needing more marijuana over time to achieve the same effects.
  • Withdrawal symptoms: Irritability, anxiety, sleep problems, or cravings when not using.
  • Loss of control: Trying to cut down or stop, but being unable to or using more than intended.
  • Neglecting responsibilities: Decline in work/school performance or avoidance of obligations due to use.
  • Continued use despite harm: Persisting with marijuana despite negative physical, social, or legal consequences.

Noticing any of these symptoms can be a reason to reach out to a professional recovery center to learn more about marijuana addiction, the treatment services available, and how to best support your child.

Our Programs For Treating Marijuana Addiction

Finding the right level of care for your child depends on their unique experiences, needs, and healing milestones. However, we are always available not only to support your child wherever they are, but also to help them transition between levels of care for consistent, excellent support.

Our programs are designed for those who have completed a medical detox program and are ready to build on their sober lives. However, we are always able to work with you, coordinating with local detoxification facilities in West Palm Beach to structure a healing journey and transition to the most appropriate care possible.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our partial hospitalization program provides dedicated on-site support and personalized treatment, best used as a “step down” option after completing detox, residential care, or inpatient treatment. These programs run from 9:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m. for adolescents, with time allotted for a lunch break and hourly breaks to rest so clients can manage their energy and put their all into overcoming marijuana addiction.

Our PHP is also available to young adults from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to encourage morning work hours. This allows young adults to maintain steady employment while still benefiting from the support of peers and medical professionals at our rehab facility.

These programs blend evidence-based care, individual and group therapy, and holistic healing options to address alcohol addiction from multiple angles, with personalized treatment, services, and mental health treatment to facilitate truly transformative change. You also have access to our on-site amenities, such as a pool, grill, and lounging areas, to build new relationships with others in recovery and embrace our healing community.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our intensive outpatient program is designed for those who have completed our PHP or residential care options and are ready to advance to the next level, embracing new freedoms and responsibilities in overcoming marijuana addiction. In our IOP, clients still receive high-quality support while living outside of a curated sober space, balancing personal responsibilities, academics, or work with ongoing care. These programs include 10 to 15 hours of group therapy sessions each week, addressing new challenges and stresses as they arise, building on each client’s coping strategies, and providing a safe space to refine personal skills.

Outpatient Program (OP)

After graduating from our PHP or IOP program, you can transition to our outpatient program. This is our least intensive level of care, designed for those who have demonstrated practiced, effective coping strategies and are ready to take on even greater personal responsibility and accountability in their healing journey. Offering six to 10 hours of sessions per week, this is best for those who are committed to their own sober future and continue to build on their healing practices at home, alongside engaged and knowledgeable supports and family members.

You are never far from sympathetic and committed support. From your first step into a program to engaging in our aftercare or alumni options, you are a celebrated member of our healing community, surrounded by peers and professionals committed to both sober healing and building a marijuana-free life to be proud of.

Addressing Underlying Mental Health Conditions That Co-Occur With Substance Use

Addiction and mental health disorders are often interconnected, with one informing the other. From feelings of anxiety and depression to the stresses of daily work, academic deadlines, or social stresses, each person will face emotional challenges. It is common to look for any sort of relief from these stresses, with addictive substances like marijuana being a common way to push down these difficult feelings.

Addressing substance abuse without confronting underlying mental health conditions can lead to an incomplete set of coping strategies, increasing the risk of relapse. Dedicated dual diagnosis support is paramount to get to the core root of healing, doing more than treating surface-level symptoms, but engaging in genuine, lasting change.

Personality & Mood Disorders

We also offer dedicated care for underlying personality and mood disorders like bipolar disorder, and how these challenges impact substance use, for a comprehensive and lasting approach to transformative care.

Interpersonal & Relational Issues

Marijuana addiction impacts more than just an individual, with relationships with friends, family, and loved ones all being affected. We explore the impact of addiction on relationships, as well as develop skills for creating healthy relationships in sobriety, addressing challenges from communication to codependency.

Safety & Crisis Concerns

Our clinical staff is also trained to ensure the safety of your son, offering not just clinical excellence in overcoming addiction but also creating a safe and accepting place to navigate challenges. This includes support for addressing suicidal thoughts and ideation, creating an accepting, positive, and supportive atmosphere to address these difficult feelings.

Emotional & Mood
Regulation

Healing means addressing underlying challenges, not just in stress, but also in how to manage emotions to make more educated decisions about how to process and respond to stress. Personized support for addressing emotional dysregulation, anger management, anxiety, depression, and more is available to help your teen better cope with these challenges without marijuana.

Developmental & Gender-Specific Challenges

Our focus on adolescent and young adult men allows us to focus on the challenges your son faces, overcoming addiction and navigating daily life, with programs focused on developmental and transitional changes and unique men’s issues that can impact the use of marijuana and daily stress and mental health.

Integrated Therapies Providing a Whole-Person Approach to Care

Healing is a transformative process. We blend both evidence-based care with holistic healing practices to create a well-rounded approach to change, meeting the needs of each individual while developing the skills they need to maintain their hard-earned sobriety in real-world situations, and creating programs that set them up for lasting success.

Trauma‑Informed & Relational Psychotherapies

Underlying traumatic experiences can inform the use of marijuana as a coping strategy. Our clinical staff integrates trauma-informed care into each program as needed, offering options such as the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), attachment-based therapy, trauma-focused care, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to provide a comprehensive and effective approach to change.

Evidence‑Based Cognitive & Behavioral Therapies

Effective, evidence-based care is the backbone of our programs, delivering clinical excellence and proven therapies to address individual needs. Options such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and others are available. They can be used in conjunction with other holistic programs for an effective, personalized approach to healing.

Creative, Skills & Recovery‑Oriented Supports

In addition to evidence-based care, each program includes collaborative creative options like art therapy, life skills development, 12-step integration, and a robust, supportive communal atmosphere, tending not just to personal needs but also to social needs that can shape a marijuana-free future.

Medical & Clinical Interventions

We also provide medical and clinical interventions as necessary to create a safe and effective recovery journey. Each program includes options such as medication management, as well as family and clinical intervention planning to address medical needs throughout the recovery process.

Support for Families

Families are just as involved in the healing process as those overcoming marijuana use. We provide resources and family-centered care to not only heal from the effects of addiction on the family, but also become educated and effective supports.

Education About Cannabis Products

Proper education about marijuana is necessary for healing and providing support. We work with families to provide education and resources about the effects of THC, or the chemical compound that creates the high in marijuana, as well as CBD, or the chemical responsible for its calming effects, which can exist in varying potencies.

Vaping is also increasing in popularity. However, it is not necessarily safe, as many vapes may expose your son to higher doses of THC and heighten the risk of health problems like EVALI, or e-cigarette or vaping use-associated lung injury.

Lastly, synthetic cannabinoids can be much more potent than their natural counterparts. While even natural cannabis is dangerous, synthetic alternatives can be advertised as a safer alternative despite carrying more intense effects.

Strategies for Communication and Setting Boundaries

We also equip families for continued healing at home by developing communication strategies to explore healing together, address new challenges, and increase accountability throughout the healing process. Setting boundaries is also crucial, empowering families to provide effective support while focusing on personal needs and creating a safe and comfortable atmosphere that encourages healing for the whole family.

Relapse Prevention & Planning

Healing from marijuana addiction is an ongoing journey. We are prepared to both address the effects of marijuana in the present and develop effective relapse-prevention skills that preserve each person’s hard-earned sobriety in the future, working with you or your son to practice personalized skills, strategies, and provide aftercare planning and support for long-lasting change.

FAQs

Does my insurance cover marijuana addiction treatment programs?

Yes, healthcare insurance can help cover the cost of marijuana treatment. However, exactly what is covered will depend on your specific health insurance plan. Verifying your insurance and benefits is the first step to understanding your coverage, and we are here to help you navigate the confusing world of insurance each step of the way.

Using more marijuana than intended, neglecting other responsibilities, prioritizing or being preoccupied with marijuana use, or experiencing withdrawal symptoms like increased anxiety, irritation, mood swings, or anger can all indicate the need for marijuana detox and a professional treatment program.

Marijuana can lead to increased feelings of anxiety, depression, or paranoia, memory problems, slowed reaction time, and compromised decision-making skills. Long-term effects also include changes in brain development, especially for teens and young adults exposed to marijuana early in life, which can lead to other lasting challenges with attention, memory, and judgment, or compromised motivation or feelings of detachment.
